Sugarbush, Killington and Stratton Join IKON Pass

When the owners of Aspen and Squaw Valley bought Stratton and Mammoth last year (and a slew of other resorts), we knew there would be a sweet pass deal at the end of that rainbow.

Now, Alterra, as the new company is called, has announced new partnerships and its new Ikon  Pass  is going to be good for unlimited skiing at Stratton (and 12 other resorts) as well as up to 7 days at Killington and Sugarbush Resorts, as well, as all of Aspen’s mountains, Jackson Hole, Snowbird, Alta and many others. In the East, the Ikon Pass will also offer 7-day access to Sugarloaf and Sunday River in Maine and Loon Mountain, N.H.

The Ikon Pass goes on sale on March 6 for $899 ($199 for kids under 12)  and has no blackout dates. An Ikon Base Pass is also available for $599 at 17 resorts and does feature blackout dates. The pricing positions this pass squarely against Vail Resorts’ Epic Pass,  which has been good at Stowe, Vt., Vail, Whistler-Blackcomb and more than 14 other resorts. The Ikon replaces the M.A.X. Pass, formerly good at 44 mountains, including Stratton, Killington, Okemo and Loon Mountain.

“As an independently-owned and operated destination, we put a lot of thought into who we want to partner with, and whether those partners share the same values we do. We believe that the Ikon Pass best represents the values that are important to us and to our guests, and we look forward to working together, ” said Win Smith, President and Majority Owner, Sugarbush Resort. “Sugarbush Resort is proud to join the Ikon Pass, which brings together some of the most celebrated destinations in North America,”

In total, 26 mountains will be part of the pass, with 63,000 acres of terrain and preferred booking options and summer discounts at Alterra-owned Canadian Mountain Heliskiing.

Mikaela Shiffrin has been named the Ikon ambassador and a new Ikon Pass Fund, starting with $25,000, has been established to benefit Protect Our Winters. All Ikon Pass holders will be automatic members of Protect Our Winters, which seeks to combat climate change.

The Ikon Pass is a collaboration of industry leaders – Alterra Mountain Company, Aspen Skiing Company, Boyne Resorts, POWDR, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Alta Ski Area, Snowbird, SkiBig3, Revelstoke Mountain Resort and Sugarbush Resort.

“We continue to curate like-minded partners for the Ikon Pass that add more bucket list destinations for skiers and riders.

The new addition of SkiBig3, Revelstoke Mountain Resort and Sugarbush Resort brings tremendous value to the Ikon Pass, and expands access in Canada and the East Coast,” said Erik Forsell, Chief Marketing Officer of Alterra Mountain Company. “We are thrilled to partner with these three iconic destinations and welcome them to the Ikon Pass community for winter 2018-20

Beloved by locals, Sugarbush Resort  boasts two mountains – Lincoln Peak and Mt. Ellen – located just a few hours from major cities such as Boston and Montreal. With recent renovations to its base areas and lodging properties, Sugarbush Resort offers family adventure in an authentic Vermont mountain environment.

Just a short flight from anywhere in North America, and located in Banff and Lake Louise in Canada’s first National Park, SkiBig3 offers three mountains: Banff Sunshine, Lake Louise and Mt. Norquay. The addition of SkiBig3 adds nearly 8,000 skiable acres in the dramatic Canadian Rockies to the Ikon Pass community of destinations.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort in British Columbia, Canada offers the most vertical in North America at 5,620 feet, plus high alpine bowls and legendary glades. It’s also the only destination worldwide to offer access via lift, snowcat, helicopter, and backcountry terrain from one village base.
