Six Inns and B&Bs

Vermont has amazingly personal and luxury inns and B&Bs, with many just a few miles away from popular ski resorts. 

If you’re looking for a luxury room this fall or winter, it helps to know your options – especially when some of those options are some of the best in the state. With fine dining a primary part of the experience, these inns and bed-and-breakfasts offer a one-of-a-kind experience — and with skiing and riding just minutes away.

Hermitage Inn, Dover
With the mountains of southern Vermont just outside its door, the Hermitage Inn is a restored 19th century farmhouse with 15 individually themed rooms with additional lodging options at the nearby Hermitage Club. Activities include hiking the Green Mountain National Forest or exploring the Deerfield Valley in the fall and snowmobiling, ice skating and snowshoeing in the winter. The menu includes fine local ingredients and a wine cellar credited by Wine Spectator as having “one of the greatest wine collections in the world.”

Pitcher Inn, Warren
Ranking in Conde Nast Traveler’s Gold List in 2013 as one of the “best places to stay in the world, the Pitcher Inn opened in the late 1800s as a lodging stopover for wagon drivers. Today, this balconied white-clapboard inn in the heart of the picturesque village of Warren offers 11 theme rooms decorated from periods of Vermont history from Colonial to modern. The Mountain Room, for example, has a black slate steam shower, fire tower and a mural of a 360-degree view of the Green Mountains. The Tracks Lounge, downstairs, offers local beers and rare wines, a game room and a spectacular stone fireplace. The dining room upstairs offers an unsurpassed menu with influences from classic French to Southeast Asian.

Amee Farm Lodge, Pittsfield
Pittsfield’s Amee Farm Lodge is a great starting point for fall and winter adventures. The fully restored post-and-beam farmhouse features 15 rooms within a short walk from the center of the village. For outdoor recreation, Pittsfield is home to miles of biking trails and within short distance to the intersection of the Appalachian and Long Trails.

The Woodstock Inn and Resort, Woodstock
With nine styles of rooms, fitness and racquet club and spa, the Woodstock Inn offers as many amenities and activities inside the resort as are available outside. Guest can ski at nearby Suicide Six and Nordic ski trails or explore the town of Woodstock.

Three Mountain Inn, Jamaica
Set in the Green Mountains, this 15-bedroom inn, built in 1780, overlooks Jamaica State Park and is a short drive to a number of ski areas. The bedrooms are each named after Vermont towns and feature various themes. Visitors can explore the state park or nearby villages of Weston, Chester, Grafton or Newfane, shop and sightsee in Manchester and ski nearby.
