Did You Ever Get this High at 13?

At 13, Mac Forehand was already sending  bigger double corks than guys twice his age. In January 2016, Forehand took the podium on day two of the Rev Tour at Waterville Valley. Here’s the story we did with him back in our Fall 2015 issue and a video of him in action.

Mac Forehand convinced his parent to move to Vermont. Smart kid.

Mac Forehand Age: 13 Occupation: Student
Claim to Fame:
Placed first in rails (age group 10-13) and third in slopestyle (age group 13-15) at the 2015 USASA Nationals. Invited to train with the U.S. Freeskiing Rookie Team. Sponsors: Rossignol and Smith Optics. Lives in: Stratton Skis: Stratton

Last year I went to the Nationals and was disappointed with my performance. The next year I trained really hard with my Stratton Mountain freeski coach Brian Knowles and podiumed on both my events in 2015. I was pretty psyched to win the rails and finish third in slopestyle at Copper this past April.

I’ve been skiing in the Stratton Mountain Seasonal program since I can remember and began training with Stratton Mountain School and my coach Jesse Mallis  this summer. I really wanted to focus on getting better at a few tricks. I found the hard work  pays off.

Earlier this past summer I went to Quebec where we trained at a facility in a pool. It was really fun to go off the jumps and land in the water. With the water ramps I perfected a lot of tricks that I was able to bring to snow at Momentum Ski Camps in Whistler. At home in Stratton, my buddies and I spent a lot of the summer heading down to the quarry in Dorset where we do a lot of the same tricks  we do on skis off the cliffs into the water.

At the end of the summer, my sister Savannah and I went to Perisher, Australia to train. My sister is 17 and on Stratton Mountain School’s mogul team. We had so much fun! I loved seeing all the kangaroos and some of my friends even ate kangaroo.

Now that I’m back from my summer training, my family and I packed up the car and will be living at Stratton full time. We’ve been living in Connecticut and going back and forth but I love Vermont —it’s just quiet here and we live in the woods, not in suburbs. My parents love it here too. I’m going into eighth grade at the Stratton Mountain School.  The best part about living here is that I’ll ski at least five days a week, and weekends too if I want to.—M.F
